The first project in the Storefront will feature artist Susan A. Barnett and the international photographic group the AWEARNESS project, creating a photographic collection that records the ever-changing messages found on the back of t-shirts. These non-traditional portraits reveal the wearer’s hopes, beliefs, affiliations and personal mantras. Fascinated by the remarkable harmony between the town’s different communities, the AWEARNESS project is inviting Lutonians to design their own series of t-shirts for AWEARNESS Luton and be photographed wearing them.
AWEARNESS Luton aims to create a diverse and fascinating mosaic of opinions and attitudes in and about Luton. A selection of the final submissions will be printed onto t-shirts and displayed in the Storefront. Applicants will be invited to wear their t-shirt and be photographed by Barnett. This series of photographs will then be projected onto the Culture Wall in the Luton Cultural Quarter for the public to view and engage with.
